The Alphabet Formulations - BB, CC & DD Cream

•BB CREAM•

Although South Africa is just beginning to wrap it's head around this beauty balm, BB Cream hit the overseas market back in 2012.

Most BB Creams are great multi-taskers. For one, many of them are able to offer cosmetic benefits by evening out your complexion like a lightweight foundation and brightening your skin like a primer. On top of this, a good BB will also offer various skincare benefits, such as soothing your skin like an anti-inflammatory and providing sun protection.

•CC CREAM•

But now the new letters on the block in 2013 are the CCs, aka Complexion Correctors. It's meant to be worn on top of your favorite moisturizer, in place of foundation. Me? Go out without a little foundation on? You must be joking!

CC's are a new approach to base makeup. The developers figure that we shouldn't cover up the good skin and bad skin with foundations, but even everything out with sheer coverage. So any annoying redness, dullness and sallowness is all neutralised. Your foundation will collect dust next to this beauty must have!

•DD CREAM•

The makeup company Julep is releasing a "Dynamic Do-all" cream in June, which promises not one but two anti-aging ingredients.  Like BB Creams and CC Creams, it offers lightweight, buildable coverage and SPF, but also claims to improve your skin over time.  I'm sure it's won't be long before a bunch of other companies start putting out their own versions too. Let's hope South Africa gets it's pick of some really great DD Creams.

So which of the 3 do you plan to use in your daily makeup regimen? Let us know in the comment section below.

  2. It's crazy how fast things are moving! I've resisted the BB trend so far. Sticking to foundation and mixing my own tinted moisturiser...
